Today Judge Michael McShane ruled that Oregon’s marriage ban on gays and lesbians is unconstitutional. I am thrilled to be living in the state that no longer sees the decision of two people in love and wanting to marry as something that is wrong. And while this wonderful news is cause for celebration, we should not forget our friends and family in other states who are still living under oppressive laws. I have so many wonderful people in my life that have been in long-term relationships and are not allowed to marry due to their geography. The true celebration will begin when Georgia, Wisconsin, Arizona, Florida and the other 28 states open their doors to equality and strike down these same-sex bans.
I realize that our forefathers may not of had gay marriage on their minds when they wrote the Constitution. However, I believe they were smart enough men to know that the world would change. I'm proud to live in a country that believes in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness....and I can't think of anything more happy than committing to the love of another.
I see ivory satin, silk chiffon and lace.
